Matrix operations explained

Determinant

The determinant of a square matrix tells you whether the matrix is invertible (det ≠ 0) and, geometrically, how much the linear map scales volumes. We compute it by LU decomposition with partial pivoting, which is numerically stable.

Inverse

Computed by Gauss–Jordan elimination on the augmented matrix [A | I]. If A is singular (det ≈ 0) we report no inverse.

Multiplication

For an m×n matrix A and an n×p matrix B, the product AB is m×p. Each entry is the dot product of a row of A with a column of B.
